Advanced Dental Technologies
The bulk of the video content on this page are demonstrations and animations of of dental technologies available in our office.
Visit our Treatment Video page to see examples of live surgery and treatments for a variety of cosmetic and reconstructive needs used on a daily basis.
Redefining the Comprehensive Consultation - Evaluation
Our office was the first practice statewide to invest in providing Cone Beam catscan 3-D Imaging. Soon afterwards, Dr. Marinic removed his Panographic xray machine. Panographs have been surpassed in providing the diagnostic edge that can be critical for reconstructive and rehabilitative dentistry.
Reconstructive - Dental Surgery Patients
As a matter of routine, ALL patients considering reconstructive treatments or surgical procedures are given not just common bite wing xrays, but a full 3 Dimensional Catscan at little or no cost. This new standard of care, for our patients, assures a level of basic dental evaluation that includes the best that digital imaging can offer.
Technology Standards
The bulleted list below represents the technologies used on a daily basis by Dr. Marinic for providing state of the art diagnostics, treatment planning and variety of products and surgical protocols for almost any imagineable dental need.
Our in-house Catscan apparatus (Sirona Galileos Cone Beam) represents the starting or entry point of our patient's access to state of the art services. Cone Beam scans, for most patients, provide technical data that is convenient (no special visits to imaging centers that charge $300-$500 for a single scan) and provides xray data accuracy not possible with Panoramic xrays.
Catscan Training - Treatment Planning
All patients considering any number of tooth replacement procedures undergo a cone beam catscan analysis whereby 3 dimensional xrays are obtained that effectively create the data for assessing the entire jawbone - dentition relationship. Patients quickly learn how to comprehend the visual scans and participate in their own treatment planning.

Tooth Extractions: Simple - Complex
|
| Click screen see how it works |
Everybody hates tooth extractions. While fear, anxiety and discomfort about tooth removal is enough to make nearly anyone (child or adult) want to avoid getting treatment for one or more teeth, Dr. Marinic nonetheless shares the grief.
Extractions can commonly destroy jawbone material if not performed "healthfully." Wisdom teeth and molar extractions (posterior teeth in general) are frequently associated with bone loss which can affect a treatment plan that might involve implant dentistry.

For several years now, Dr. Marinic has been using technologies and protocols that were developed in Europe yet hardly used by most dentists. Click here to watch our EZ-Extract video that demonstrates a simple tooth extraction.
For multiple extractions or full arch tooth removal that might be recommended for treating gum disease, creating fixed bridge treatments or custom denture applications, the Ogram Method is used. Watch this amazing video of Dr. Marinic removing 8 teeth in less than 5 minutes.
Gum Disease Issues: Technology and Treatment Choices

Patients who are anticipating the need for periodontitis treatments, Dr. Marinic provides a range of choices that make this feared treatment very easy to complete. Sedation services can be used that enable the fastest mode (periodontal surgeries) of treatment completion... leading to numerous choices for recreating function and good dental cosmetics.
Patients who favor a less or non-surgical method for eradicating the disease will be interested in the Perio Protect product. An FDA approved technology that uses proprietary trays and antibiotic compounds that are administered by the patient, in the comfort of their own home. Learn more here.
Tissue Grafting Basics

Tooth extractions and other tooth replacement sites that require routine replacement or regeneration of lost bone mass are treated with a variety of products.
Socket grafts (fill in of an extraction site) and membrane grafts used as needed to create the best foundation for bone and/or tooth replacement.

Patients interested in treating an entire arch of extracted teeth (new or old extractions) are recommended to watch the next video.
Advanced Grafting: Full Arch Jawbone Rehabilitation

Patients who have a history of being toothless (edentulous) as a result of wearing dentures or who expect to have full arch extractions typically choose a variety of products to restore, recreate or reconstruct various areas of the upper or lower jaw bone structures.
Click here to watch an actual surgery of a patient (severe gum disease history) treated by Dr. Marinic who chose extractions, bone grafts and provisional implants that permitted extractions and full lower jaw tooth replacement in one treatment session. Sockets grafts and membrane products were used.
Bone Compression: Nobel Biocare Implant Hybrid Alternative
 |
| Click screen to see how bone compression occurs |
Many patients can forego bone graft surgeries with the use of a new Nobel Biocare device called NobelActive. It is an implant device that eliminates the need for bone grafts and can create an immediate function tooth replacement. Ideal for single tooth implant surgeries.
With its unique tip and thread design, the implant slices through bone unlike conventional self-tapping implants that scrape the bone away as they tap. Click here to see how the procedure is performed.
NobelActive Bone Tissue Compression: Insertion Close Up

This animated video sequence demonstates, with a close up perspective, the changes in bone tissue that is immediately adjacent to the newly inserted implant device. The NobelActive design literally changes the molecular density of surrounding bone tissue that is unparalled. Osseointegration and firmness of fit promotes accelerated healing along with the ability to place an immediate load of a provisional restoration.
Recommended viewing for all implant candidates. Click here to see how the procedure is performed.
NobelActive Live Surgery Demonstration

| Click screen to watch the close up detail |
A live surgery video showing the use of the NobelActive implant used as an immediate loading, same day implant. The anterior tooth extraction presented optimal conditions of creating a healthy placement of an implant without the need for any grafting material nor extensive perio surgery.
The bone compressing features of the implant creates an ideal fit into the patient's maxilla. A provisional acrylic crown is placed that provides a basic aesthetic result while the implant becomes fully osseointegrated.

Guided Implants: Nobelguide Surgery Guides
 |
| Click screen to watch surgery guide animation |
NobelGuide surgery templates, or surgical guides, custom fabricated from the 3 Dimensional imaging data generated during Dr. Marinic's evaluation, represents the perfect choice for full arch tooth replacement with optimized implant placements.
Guesswork and the use of manual calipers (used by many dentists to measure width of implant sites) is totally eliminated. Recommended viewing for patients seeking the highest degree of accuracy possible. Click here to watch this entertaining video.
Osseointegration Assessment: Testing Best Implant Stability
 |
| Click screen to watch osseointegration testing |
Dental implants should always be tested beforehand... prior to loading the implant with a crown, fixed bridge or other prosthesis. Otherwise, bone graft failure may occur.
In our office, Dr. Marinic uses the Ostell Mentor assessment device to objectively measure the degree of osseointegration for traditional implants. Guesswork is thereby eliminated which can assure that implant osseointegration healing is complete.
Implant opportunities now exist for many patients who, historically, have been told they were marginal candidates for implant surgery. Click here to watch an animated video.
Say No to Dentures: New Choices in Tooth Replacement Procedures

An animated example of how an upper edentulated jaw is prepared for traditional dental implants that create the foundation and infrastructure for a fixed bridge treatment hybrid that exceeds the present standards of best treatment choice, convenience and comfort of traditional fixed bridgework. Marius Bridge: Final Calibration
 |
| Click picture to see mounting procedure |
In this video Dr. Marinic performs the final calibration on a titanium framework structure that was developed for a Chicago area patient. The mounting system is applied to the patient's diagnostic stone molds representing the implant configuration for his jaw structures. Cone Beam Catscans and specialized software enable this degree of accuracy, preventing almost any imagineable "surprise" that could result in a poor or dysfunctional fit of the new prosthesis.
