Collapsed Bite Reconstruction

Normal wear and tear on our teeth is normal and inevitable. Holding all variables constant (e.g., good oral health habits, disease - infection free hygiene, normal tooth structures, etc), our smiles, bite and jaw positioning relationships go through an aging process that progresses with our chronological age.

So, having a grandparent with a "granny smile" is a normal process, although today.... many grandparents don't want that certain granny appearance.

Bite Collapse reconstruction .... the interest for it and understanding the dynamics of it is actually focused on those who have abnormal bite and/or jaw relationships. Depending on the severity of the condition and the specific causes operating (there are several) dental function can be negatively affected and/or facial features undergo change, giving the appearance of aging facial structures.

Severe Underbites

This condition is usually represented by the lower jaw (mandible) having a more forward position than the upper (maxilla) jaw. In severe cases, the upper teeth close down behind the lower teeth... possibly causing damage (chipping, breaking, cracking) of tooth structures or gum tissues.

The tmjoints can become displaced and even cause a variety of head and neck pain, migraine headaches and ear pain. Muscle and connective tissue in the joint area can bulge, presenting the popular appearance of a "bull dog jaw."

Facial features can change radically and, because of a severely distorted Smile Line, people with this degree of bite disturbance give the appearance of frowning since normal smile behavior is practically impossible to achieve.
